Yesterday we went to Highgate cemetery, past the fabulously ornate entrance to the Holly Lodge Estate. The cemetery is one of the ring of the ‘Magnificent Seven’ opened around the outskirts of London in the 1830s to cope with the doubling in the population as a result of the Industrial Revolution. The Slightly later East section is open to wander whereas the West, original part is only open for tours, but the one we went on was fascinating. These photos are a mix from both and represent traditional Victorian symbolism with stunning modern sculptures.
